![]() ![]() ![]() Because it has MicroSoft Money behind it. I believe Windows Defender has gotten quite a bit better, and it honestly is probably the best free AV solution at this point. I was using AVG, and Windows Defender, as well as Pandasoft at some point on the PC's that were so completely screwed that it was less stressful to just abandon them and get a new computer.īut after 10 years plus with Bitdefender, I haven't had any issues. Now that may just sound like a rock that keeps away tigers. It's hard to prove that I would've been infected if I hadn't had Bitdefender, but after losing two PC's pretty much completely to what I assume were rootkits, in addition to malware and viruses in the 2000's, I didn't want to take any chances. So far, no issues with viruses, malware, or anything whatsoever. I am a likeminded individual.īut yeah, I've been using Bitdefender for over a decade, across two different PC's, my laptop, and I had some extra licenses throughout so I've put it on my Mom's laptops and her PC. It's saved my bacon on numerous occasions.Īh, I see you're a man of exquisite tastes Mr. Most of these are easy to spot and unsophisticated but they take advantage of people's lack of knowledge. Passable av software is important but honestly most security threats people bring on themselves going to dodgy sites and falling for scams. ![]() I got into Windows eventually to find mcaffee using 75% of an i7 cpu. It was performing so bad i thought the hard drive was grinding itself into powder. Worst case of resource hogging security software i ever saw was mcaffee on an i7 laptop 5 or 6 years ago. Sometimes requiring the use of dedicated removal tools. Both of those i can also vouch are usually bigger resource hogs and more prone to causing performance and other technical problems. It was certainly above the other big two free ones Avast and AVG. Now such scores are never definitive for obvious reasons but it is none the less impressive. The last independent test I saw about a year ago, Windows Defender scored 100%. My version was having issues with Windows 10 but their latest (2016 edition) works perfectly.Someone once described Windows Defender as using a chain-link fence to protect yourself from a swarm of angry wasps . BTW Kaspersky lets us download their latest version as long as the subscription is valid. I’ve removed it from my machine but then discovered that some very reputable web sites could not accessed without it so it’s still on my machine. How sad to see Java labeled as dangerous. Remember the one that claimed to be the FBI and highjacked people’s computers? My daughter got hit with that one. I do not download pirated or dangerous applications but many people have been hit by flyby malware just browsing the web. Kaspersky has been around for a long time and they have a great track record. I went back to Kaspersky and that is where I plan to stay. If your security software is a constant annoyance, why have it? I called their customer service and they told me the constant warnings were to protect me. Bitdefender was great until they started adding a lot of unnecessary items to it like a wallet, etc. I used to use Bitdefender but then it started getting bloated, demanding, and annoying so I stopped using it (2012 version). ![]()
